NQWall

Stand-alone video wall software

A video wall with no server behind it

Video wall software that turns a single PC into a control-room wall with no server, database or browser. It connects straight to NQNVR, lays cameras out on an automatic grid, and adds multi-monitor, spanning, frame sync and a remote control API.

Overview

Overview

NQWall is a single executable that fetches the channel list from the NQNVR REST API, pulls video through the live stream tunnel and renders it on an OpenGL grid. It picks the most square layout for the channel count and keeps unchanged tiles running when channels change. Every change is written to a state file before it is applied, so the wall comes back exactly as it was after a power loss or reboot. One process per monitor allows spanning a single feed across several monitors and frame-locked synchronization between screens. A management agent handles UDP discovery, monitor inventory and configuration deployment so NQVMS can configure the whole wall remotely, and the wall keeps running even when the manager is gone.

Notes

Measured on a two-monitor wall, frame lock reduced seam brightness mismatch to about one sixth of free-running. The wall PC must be on the NVR's IP allow-list.

Key Features

Key features

Direct NVR connection

Reads channels from the NQNVR REST API (Digest SHA-256) and video from the live tunnel. Works without any central server, with optional certificate pinning.

Auto grid, seamless relayout

Chooses the most square layout (3×3, 2×2 …) for the channel count, polls the channel list and swaps only the tiles that changed.

Spotlight and control API

An HTTP API selects channels, forces grids, goes full screen and targets monitors. Spotlight enlarges one camera while hidden channels keep decoding, so returning is instant.

Persistent state

Every change is written before it is applied, so the last layout is restored after power loss or reboot.

Multi-monitor and spanning

One process per monitor, each independently controllable. Spanning shows one camera enlarged across, for example, four screens.

Frame lock and view propagation

Master/follower frame-level sync minimizes seams between screens, and one control call to the master propagates to the whole wall.

Many source types

NVR camera channels, NQPCAgent remote desktops, still images (PNG, JPEG, GIF) and looping video files, placed freely on the same wall.

Management agent

UDP discovery, EDID-based monitor identity that survives cable swaps and reboots, configuration push, process supervision and a media upload store.
